DC motors are found in different electronic devices
and basically convert electrical energy to mechanical energy through direct
current. Here are described some of the major types of DC motors.
Permanent Magnet DC Motor
As the name indicates, the permanent magnet is a
type of DC motor that produces a magnetic field. In the Permanent magnet DC
motor, a non-input current is used up for excitation. This type is found in
devices, such as wipers, automobile starters, and air conditioners, etc.
Shunt DC Motor
The shunt is another type of DC motor in which the
field is connected with the armature windings in parallel. The shunt DC motors
offer greater speed regulation, and the reason is its field is separately excited
from the armature windings. It also has a simplified reverse control.
Series DC Motor
The series DC motor has a large wire that carries
the complete armature current winds the field with few turns. This motor can
produce a large amount of starting torque without regulating the speed. These
DC motors are usually avoided when it comes to variable speed applications.
Compound DC Motor
The compound DC motor has a shunt field that is
distinctly excited. These motors have an amazing starting torque. Still, it is
known to face issues with the variable speed applications.
Short Shunt DC Motor
The short shunt DC motors involve the shunt field
winding, which is connected with the armature winding in parallel.
Long Shunt DC Motor
The shunt field winding in the long shunt DC motor
is again connected in parallel with both series field coil and armature. These
are connected with one another in series.
Differentially Compound DC Motor
The China DC motor controller driver manufacturer makes
the compound wound DC motor in which the flux is produced because of the shunt
field windings that minimize the effect of the main series windings.
